Overview

This course covers the development of the United Sates from Colonization through Reconstruction. Emphasis is placed on the development of permanent settlements, the American Revolution, growth of a democratic and and federal system, the Civil War, as well as, key events and individuals in early American history. It is designed for highly motivated students with strong social studies skills. This course requires a significant amount of critical writing and reading of both primary and secondary sources. Class activities stress discussion, independent learning, and cooperative learning activities.
